Scottish Executive the devolved government for Scotland. The Scottish Executive is responsible for most of the issues of day-to-day concern to the people of Scotland, including health, education, justice, rural affairs, and transport.

Scottish Parliament legislative body for Scotland, with devolved powers within the United Kingdom.

 

Government departments/non-departmental public bodies

Audit Scotland help the Auditor General and the Accounts Commission to make sure organisations that spend public money in Scotland use it properly, efficiently and effectively.

Clinical Standards Board for Scotland a statutory body, established as a special health board in 1999.

Commission for Racial Equality Scotland work for a just and integrated Scotland, where diversity is valued.

Communities Scotland is a Scottish Executive agency working to ensure decent housing and strong communities across Scotland

Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) is the representative voice of Scottish local government and also acts as the employers' association on behalf of all Scottish councils.

Disability Rights Commission Scotland the Scottish branch of this independent organisation with the goal of "a society where all disabled people can participate fully as equal citizens".

Equal Opportunities Commission Scotland is the leading agency working to eliminate sex discrimination in Scotland providing expert advice, practical guidance and legal information relating to sex equality in Scotland.

Learning and Teaching Scotland the lead organisation for the development and support of the Scottish curriculum.

Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland an organisation working to safeguard the rights and welfare of everyone with a mental illness, learning disability or other mental disorder. 

Office of the Public Guardian has a general function to supervise those individuals who have been appointed to manage the financial or property affairs of an adult who lacks the capacity to do so for themselves.

Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care the new, independent regulator set up under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 to regulate care services in Scotland.

Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations is the national body representing the voluntary sector.

Scottish Executive Development Department administers a wide range of government responsibilities, including social justice, housing, land use planning and building control.

Scottish Executive Education Department: responsible for administering policy on pre-school and school education, children and young people, and tourism, culture and sport.

Scottish Executive Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning Department: supports business by encouraging enterprise, improving skills and employability and developing an efficient and effective transport and communications infrastructure.
